Let Me Introduce You, by Georgene Brazer.

I had been looking for a wig maker for my friend who was about to face chemotherapy.

She was horrified with the thought of going bald…my introduction to breast cancer. I always volunteer to help others and so I did. I looked for individuals who worked with wigs.

Those I spoke to were more concerned with money than the need. I felt uncomfortable, lost, till I met Stefini. When I first met her I knew she was special. I was greeted with a warm smile and a personality that was radiant. Stefini and I talked about my friend and when I brought her to Stefin’s shop I knew all would be OK. Stefini understood. She told my friend that she personally loves to wear wigs, that for her and so many clients having a wig makes life smoother, helps them look great and always feel good about themself.

I understood immediately that she was making my friend feel comfortable that part of looking better is a normal desire for the majority of those wearing wigs, not because of illness, but a way by which women enhance their looks.

My friend looked forward to receiving her wig and the confidence she would feel wearing it. So she became the first of a number of women I introduced to Stefini because I suddenly realized how many women I knew who were facing chemo and that I could help. I had Stefini. We talked about the fact that being bald is a painful reminder of their diagnosis both to themselves and others. I sincerely believe a wig can be more than just a confidence booster; it can help a woman flourish on her road to recover.

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so I knew I needed to introduce a hero to you whose passion is helping women feel positive about themselves. Spending time with Stefini and her heartfelt desire to help, I realized that she recognizes, through interaction, that women are stronger than they seem, braver than they believe and twice as beautiful as they could imagine.

Help and caring are in her words, in her beautiful wigs and in her desire to help.

Thank you Stefini, for making the women you work with feel good, to be a comfort at such a vulnerable time.

Her shop, Secret Tresses Wigs is in Savannah.
